The Aussie skipper picked up the Ceat International Cricketer of Year 2002-2003 and Ceat International Batsman of Year awards, while his side was named the `team of the year'. Ceat Limited vice-chairman Harsh Goenka, announcing the names in eight categories at the Cricket Club of India on Wednesday, explained the manner in which Ponting's domination was determined. Speaking at the function, former Aussie skipper and noted commentator Ian Chappell noted that CCR's best performers have been `complete cricketers' excelling in both forms of the game. The Aussie one-day skipper topped the CCR with 105 points (64 from 10 Tests and 41 from 35 ODIs). He accumulated 97 points to head the batsman's list. India match-winners Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Mohd Kaif too figure among the awardees, apart from Vijay Hazare whose long list of cricketing firsts fetched him the `Lifetime Achievement' award. The CCR list of outstanding achievers was prepared on the basis of an objective points system, with legends Sunil Gavaskar, Ian Chappell and Clive Lloyd as the adjudicators, apart from a panel of judges including Test stalwarts Ajit Wadekar, Sanjay Manjrekar and cricket journalists Ayaz Memon and Lokendra Pratap Sahi. The 2002-2003 awardees: Ricky Ponting (International Cricketer of Year), Australia (best team), R. Ponting (best batsman), Harbhajan Singh (best bowler), Virender Sehwag (best fielder), Sachin Tendulkar (Cricketer of World Cup 2003), Vijay Hazare (lifetime achievement), Mohd Kaif and Yuveraj Singh (best match-winning performance).
