The newly appointed State unit BSP president, P.P. Chaudhary, announced the expulsion of Mr. Baraiya and Mr. Kumar at a Press conference at Gwalior today. He told newsmen that the two were being expelled from the party for "indulging in anti-party activities". Mr. Chaudhary accused Mr. Bariaya of entering into a deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party to strengthen its prospects in the coming Assembly elections. Even Mr. Kumar was hand-in-glove with Mr. Bariaya, he added. Mr. Chaudhary told newsmen that the party supremo, Mayawati, had received information that both the expelled party functionaries were conspiring to strengthen the BJP. The party was also concerned about the possibility of poll-related material being misused by them, he said drawing attention to some letters signed by Ms. Mayawati that were missing from the BSP headquarters. The expulsion of Mr. Bariaya and Mr. Kumar comes two days after four State BSP general secretaries and the Gwalior district party president were expelled from the party. Mr. Baraiya had recently organised a huge BSP rally that had been addressed by Ms. Mayawati in Bhopal. However he was replaced by Mr. Kumar soon after this rally. Last week, Mr. Kumar was removed to make way for Mr. Chaudhary.
