JAIPUR OCT. 29. As part of the preparations for the coming Assembly elections, arrangements are being reviewed in all the districts in Rajasthan and District Election Officers are making all efforts to ensure free, fair and smooth polls.

An official release, providing details of the arrangements being made in five districts, said today that ward meetings would be organised shortly to provide training for polling by electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the model code of conduct was being observed in letter and spirit. The administration has also imposed a ban on carrying of arms at public places till the elections.

The Udaipur Collector, Abhay Kumar, has given instructions for physical verification of electoral rolls and asked for daily reports about the law and order situation from the returning officers. A drive will also be launched in the district to search and seize illegal weapons and nab anti-social elements.

Ward meetings for training on EVMs will be organised in Jodhpur from November 1 to 7 in the Government schools, where officials of the District Election Office will impart training to voters.

The Churu District Election Officer, R.Venkatesvaran, eviewed preparations for appointment of polling parties and zonal magistrates, training of polling parties and acquisition of vehicles at a meeting on Tuesday and instructed that action be taken under the Representation of People's Act against heads of departments who had not sent the lists of employees for election duty.

The release said special instructions had been issued by the district administration in Bharatpur to ensure that banners, hoardings and cut-outs of political parties were not put up at private buildings. The municipalities and Municipal Councils are identifying public places where these hoardings would be installed.

In Pali, 11.74-lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the Assembly polls. The District Election Officer, Kuldeep Ranka, said there were eight constituencies in the district and the maximum number of 1.83-lakh voters were registered in Pali constituency, while the minimum of 1.30-lakh were in Sojat constituency.
