Special dengue camps planned

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI OCT. 29. The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), that runs four hospitals and 33 dispensaries in Delhi and caters to medical needs of around 5.5 lakh workers and their families, will be organising special dengue diagnostic and prevention camps in various parts of the Capital from Friday.

"We will be organising two-day camps in four different zones. The first camp will be held at Peeragarhi in West Delhi from October 31 to November 1 followed by Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi from November 2. The next two camps will be held at Nandnagri in East Delhi from November 4 and Samaipur Badli in North-West Delhi from November 6," informed the ESIC Director General, Ajay Dua, today.

Stating that these camps would be opened for the ESIC beneficiaries as well as the general public, Dr. Dua said preparations had been completed for conducting tests and distributing medicines during the camp.

"We will also be organising a blood donation camp at the four sites and hold special awareness programmes about prevention of dengue."

Claiming that the ESIC had initiated steps to prevent dengue among workers who generally live in resettlement colonies and slums, Dr. Dua said all their hospitals and dispensaries were on alert since June and special wards were set up to deal with dengue cases.

"So far, the four ESI hospitals had received about 825 suspected cases of dengue that were referred by the 33 ESI dispensaries in Delhi. Around 200 cases were found to be positive, of which 40 were of serious nature. However, not a single death has been reported in any of the ESIC hospitals," informed Dr. Dua, adding that the maximum cases were referred to ESIC hospitals in Jhilmil in East Delhi and Basaidarapur in West Delhi.

All ESIC hospitals and dispensaries had been declared as dengue diagnostic and treatment centres and a nodal medical officer identified in each of the establishment for coordination purposes, he said, adding special cleanliness drive had been organised in all ESIC hospitals and dispensaries and in residential colonies to check mosquito breeding.
