Andhra Pradesh
By Our Special Correspondent
The Minister's son, the TRS alleged, was one of the 28 students who were awarded excess marks to get admission into BITS, Pilani. The TRS also demanded action against a Government Whip whose daughter was allegedly awarded excess marks in the Intermediate examination. "The Chief Minister should make the Intermediate marks scam report public if he is committed to preventing criminalisation of politics as claimed by him in the Legislative Assembly," the TRS president, K Chandrasekhar Rao, said. Demanding suspension of some IAS officers whose children allegedly got excess marks through illegal means, he said the irregularities at the grassroots level could be prevented if the Government initiated action at the top level which would send right signals to people. Referring to yesterday's announcement of sops to weaker sections like 50 paise per unit of power and tatkal schemes for regularisation of power connections by the Chief Minister, he said the announcements were aimed at hoodwinking farmers and weaker sections in view of the likely advancement of elections to the Assembly. "Or else, how could Mr Naidu think about the welfare of farmers and other sections after putting them to severe hardship during the past eight years? Did he take the consent of the Transco or the Electricity Regulatory Commission before making such announcements?" he questioned. He said Mr Naidu, who promised before previous elections that there would be no hike in power tariff if the TDP was elected to power, gave a "shock" to people by frequent increase of power tariffs. "People should be cautious and they should not fall into such traps," he said. On the coming Krishna pushkarams, Mr Rao alleged that the Government, which had meted out injustice to Telangana during the Godavari pushkarams was bent on repeating the act if the statement made by the Minister for Endowments, D Sivarama Raju, was any indication. "The Minister claims that Rs 64 crores will be spent on modernisation of pilgrimage centres in Andhra region while only Rs 9 crores will be earmarked for the Telangana region through which the Krishna river flows to a length of over 400 km. Is it not injustice?" he asked. The TRS president appealed to the party cadres to observe Nov. 1, Andhra Pradesh Formation day, as "Telangana betrayal day" by wearing black badges and organising protest throughout the region.
