Sops only with an eye on polls: Rosaiah

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Oct. 29. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday criticised the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for announcing sops to weaker sections, claiming that the schemes were aimed at wooing the electorate in the light of the talk of an early election to the Legislative Assembly.

Addressing a press conference here, the PCC chief official spokesman, K. Rosaiah, said that the ruling TDP, which heckled the Congress' promise for free power to the farm sector before the previous elections, had now announced sops to a few sections without even consulting the Transco or the Electricity Regulatory Commission. "Would this mean that Mr. Naidu had accepted that providing free power to the farm sector was possible?" he questioned.

The senior Congress leader launched a scathing attack on the Government for its claims on achieving all-round development in the State stating that the only development witnessed in the State was the number of scandals that were seeing light every day. The latest scam that was exposed was the Intermediate marks scandal in which a Minister and a Government whip, besides several senior IAS officials were involved, he alleged. "What kind of development the Government, which is neck deep in scandals, wants to project? While a High Court bench questioned the liquor policy being followed in the State, the Chief Secretary has to tender apologies to the Supreme Court in another case," he said.
