Building stormed, militant killed

By Our Staff Reporter

SRINAGAR OCT. 29. A militant, the third of the group, which had attempted to blow up the Shalimar Express on Sunday night, was killed in the wee hours of today in a swift commando operation.

The militant was first spotted at 4 p.m. last evening when a senior police team went to the Akhnoor jungles to bring back the bodies of the two militants killed on Monday afternoon. But he escaped and later surfaced on the premises of the MES quarters. He opened fire on residents of the quarters injuring five persons — two children and three women. The two children and a woman died later in a hospital. Rescue teams were formed to evacuate the residents trapped in the building where the militant was hiding. Four of the residents were injured when they jumped from the building.

In a commando operation, a team of four soldiers stormed the first floor of the quarters and killed the militant.
