Kashmir panel meets

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 29. A week after the Centre's decision to hold talks with the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference, the high-level sub-committee on Jammu and Kashmir met here today.

The meeting, presided by the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, was more in the nature of "an internal review and stock-taking" of the overall situation in the State.

The sub-committee was named by the Cabinet Committee on Security, which decided on October 22 that Mr. Advani would hold talks with the Hurriyat. The panel is expected to consider "all factors" before laying down the roadmap for the proposed dialogue with the Hurriyat.

The two-hour meeting at the North Block was attended by C.D. Sahay, Secretary (RA&W), K.P. Singh, Director, Intelligence Bureau, N. Gopalaswami, Union Home Secretary, N.N. Vohra, Centre's interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir, A.S. Dulat, Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister's Office looking after Kashmir affairs, and Joint Secretary (Pakistan) in the External Affairs Ministry.

Sources said the meeting analysed the initial response of the Hurriyat, which suffered a split recently.
