Six held on charge of selling adulterated cement

BANGALORE Oct. 31. The City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested six persons on the charge of manufacturing and selling adulterated cement in the name of a well-known brand in J.J. Nagar police station limits. Cement bags worth Rs. 6 lakh were recovered from the accused.

The police said that the accused who had not taken a licence to trade in cement were selling it at a shop they had opened.

The police gave the names of the accused as Shankar (36), a resident of R.P.C. Layout, Saith (37), a resident of Chandra Layout, Shivaji (35), a resident of R.P.C. Layout, Umesh (23), a resident of Padarayanapura, Akbar Pasha (32) of Chandra Layout, and Ilyas alias Illu (21), a resident of Bommanahalli. The main accused, Sardar Sharief, is at large, police said.

Motorcycles recovered

The Upparpet police arrested a man on charges of vehicle theft and pick-pocketing and recovered two motorcycles worth Rs. 1.25 lakh and Rs. 50,000 in cash.

The police gave the name of the accused as Manohar alias Gova, a resident of Hegganahalli.

The police said that the vehicles were stolen from Upparpet and Cottonpet police station limits.

Manohar used to pick the pockets of passengers at the Kempe Gowda bus station, police added.

He had earlier been arrested by the Tirupati police and the Seshadripuram police here on charges of vehicle theft, the police said.

In another case, the Commercial Street Police arrested a man on charges of house break-in and theft and recovered jewellery and a camera worth Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 39,000 in cash from him.

The police gave the name of the accused as Devendra alias Shivakumar (25), a resident of Garvebavipalya on Hosur Road.

The police said that the accused was taken into custody while he was allegedly trying to sell the stolen jewellery on Wednesday.

On investigation, it was learnt that he was involved in house break-in and theft in MICO Layout police station limits and in J.P. Nagar police station limits. He had earlier been arrested by the Kalasipalyam police on charges of theft and had come out on bail, police added.

Illicit liquor seized

The Vidyaranyapura police arrested a person on charges of manufacturing and selling illicit liquor and recovered liquor bottles and the equipment used to manufacture it, all worth Rs. 1.5 lakh.

The police gave the name of the accused as Krishna Reddy (28), a native of Ugrahanumanapalli in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

He was carrying on the trade at a house in Saptagiri Layout in Vidyaranyapura, the police added.
