SYL canal: Sethi's assurance to Haryana Govt.

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH NOV. 1. The Union Water Resources Minister, Arjun Charan Sethi, today assured the Haryana Government that the Centre will follow in letter and in spirit the directions of the Supreme Court in the matter of Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal and Haryana would not be subjected to any injustice.

He was addressing a Jal Samiti conference in Sirsa district where he launched a Rs. 319.46-crore Bhakra Command Canal project for Haryana.

Mr. Sethi said that the case relating to the SYL canal was still with the Supreme Court and the verdict was awaited.

Earlier, the Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, urged the Central Government to hand over the work of completion of the remaining portion of the SYL canal in Punjab to the Army so that Haryana might get its due share of the Ravi-Beas waters at the earliest possible.
