Incidentally, the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, had told the House on Friday that there was no truth in the newspaper report about the crime in Chandrashekharpur. Mr. Patnaik, who holds the Home portfolio, had said that a Deputy Inspector General of Police, who was asked to inquire into the matter, found no substance in the allegations. The police investigation was ordered after the issue was raised in the Assembly on Thursday. However, soon after zero hour began today, the Opposition members stalled the proceedings questioning the findings of the police investigation. The Leader of the Opposition, Ramakanta Mishra, said only a judicial probe could bring the truth to light. The Opposition members disrupted the proceedings even after the Speaker, Sarat Kumar Kar, said that he would ask the Government to order a Crime Branch inquiry into the incident. The lone Janata Dal(S) member, Ashok Das, demanded that the CBI be asked to investigate the matter.
