The attraction at the venue was a floral arrangement depicting the map of Kerala on the occasion of Kerala `piravi' on November 1, 1956. At that time there were no districts, but eight divisions and the map showed these divisions through contrasting petal colours. By the side was also another floral arrangement showing the present map of Kerala. Soon after lighting the lamp, the Collector proceeded for the ``Guruvandanam'' ceremony to honour the septuagenarian poet, Thirunellur Karunakaran, at the latter's residence at Perinad near here. The Collector honoured Prof. Karunakaran with a golden shawl. In his reply, Prof. Karunakaran said that Malayalam as a language faces no crisis as such. Malayalam could be made the complete administrative language within a month if the administration desired it sincerely, he said. ``But to achieve that, a committed political leadership is required,'' he said. The secretary of the Kollam Public Library, K. Ravindranathan Nair, the president, Palazhi Bhaskaran, the PRD regional director, P. Ravi Varma, the Information Officer, S. Nasser, and the Deputy Collector, K. Ramachandran, addressed.
