The Convenor of the JD(U), B. Shreepathy Rao, and the Secretary General of the Samata Party, Basavaraj Ingin, told presspersons here today that discussions were already on with other segments of the erstwhile Janata Dal. The Samata Party leader, George Fernandes, was also expected to meet the Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, in this connection. Mr. Shreepathy Rao said the decision of the Samata Party and the JD(U) to merge would have to be endorsed by the national councils of the two parties. It was mandatory for the national councils to endorse the merger prior to obtaining recognition of the Election Commission of India.
