New NCC regiment raised in Tirupati

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI Nov. 1. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has raised a new regiment in Tirupati on the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) campus for the students of veterinary science and dairy technology, to be trained in remount and equestrian.

Apart from the basic military training imparted in any other NCC unit, this 2(A) R&V regiment stands out with its training to cadets in the equestrian field. This is only the second such facility in the State after Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, while a third one is planned at Gannavaram near Vijayawada to make the State the first in the country to have three R&V regiments. Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Anand Saini, Commanding Officer of the regiment, said that a coy of 160 cadets was being raised initially, while one more would be raised soon with students of agriculture. Twenty-two horses would be part of the unique regiment which would be used to impart horsemanship to the cadets.

The horses are expected to arrive here from the Army in three months when the ANGRAU gets the required infrastructure ready, including stables to house the horses. Mr. Saini, himself an international course designer and a national judge for show jumping, hoped that the unit would become prominent in the region for its training in equestrian events.

He later addressed the cadets on the mode of training and the challenges involved in it. K. Sivaiah, Associate Dean of the College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati, was present.
