Minister flays organisations seeking statehood

By Our Staff Correspondent

CHITRADURGA NOV. 1. K.H. Ranganath, Minister for Forests, today criticised the organisations that were seeking statehood on the ground of lopsided development of their region.

Participating in the Rajyotsava celebrations here, he blamed some leaders for it. Everybody should strive to overcome imbalances in development, he said.

He recalled the contribution of the former Chief Minister, S. Nijalingappa, to the development of the State.

The district administration felicitated Subba Rao of Dolomite Company, Laxmikanth Reddy of Merchant Cooperative Bank, Katappa, and Devendrappa for their contribution to ease the drinking water crisis in the district.

H. Hanumantappa, Vice-Chairman of the State Planning Commission, G.H. Tippareddy and M. Chandrappa, MLAs, Soubhagya Basavarajan, President of the zilla panchayat, and M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner, participated in the function.

Special awards were presented to some farmers of the district.

Our Bellary Correspondent reports:

"As the Finance Minister at the time of naming the State as Karnataka, I had the distinction of using Karnataka in my Budget speech for the first time, and it was a proud moment," said M.Y. Ghorpade, Minister for Panchayat Raj.

He was addressing a gathering on the Municipal Junior College Ground in Bellary after hoisting the tricolour and the Kannada flag. He offered pooja to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari's portrait brought in a decorated carriage by the Karnataka Yuvaka Sangha. The sangha President, S. Pannaraj, led the procession.

Kolur Basavanagouda, MP, K.C. Kondaiah, MLC, Padmavathi, President of the Bellary City Municipal Council, Zahir Ahmed, Chairman of the Bellary Urban Development Authority, S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner, and other dignitaries participated in the pooja.

Tableau depicting the achievements of the KSRTC, the Karnataka Milk Federation, the Forest Department, and the Women and Child Development Department were the main attraction of the procession taken out in Bellary.

Our Davangere Staff Correspondent reports:
