'Pondicherry Textiles Corpn. should run Swadeshi, Bharathi mills'

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Nov. 1. The Pondicherry State council of the AITUC has urged the Government to bring the Swadeshi and the Bharathi mills (run by the National Textiles Corporation) here under the control of the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation (PTC).

V.S. Abishegam, general secretary, AITUC, distributed to reporters copies of the resolutions adopted at a meeting held on Friday.

The AITUC objected to the `silence' maintained by the Chief Minister in initiating steps to get bonus for the workers of the two mills. The loans given to the mills by the NTC should be written off and the PTC should take over the mills, it said.

The meeting asked the Administration to reconsider privatisation of garbage cleaning work and appoint more conservancy staff. The work should be assigned only to municipalities and commune panchayats.

The ESI hospital should be modernised. The Construction Workers Welfare Board should also be revamped and adequate financial assistance extended to it to carry out its statutory obligations.A resolution condoling the death of K.R. Malkani was also adopted.
