The cards are being renewed in about 11,000 centres, including 1200 in the city. As the validity of the existing cards expires on December 31, the Government decided to revalidate the cards for one more year from January 1 to December 31, 2004. Already the cards of those whose monthly income is Rs. 5,000 and more were extended by one more year. Now the cards of those whose monthly income is below Rs. 5,000 are being renewed. Long queues were seen in a majority of the centres in the city, where the head of the family was asked to fill an application. After receipt of the completed application, an additional inner sheet was attached to the existing card for recording drawal of the monthly entitlements. The renewal is being done on all Saturdays and Sundays this month.
