Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, NOV. 2. The Congress Legislature Party leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has demanded that the Government immediately issue ration cards to all eligible beneficiaries. All party committees at the village level should be constituted for identification of the beneficiaries and the income limit for the below poverty line families should be raised from Rs 12,000 to Rs 36,000. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, the CLP leader alleged that there were several irregularities in the Velugu survey conducted for issue of new ration cards as it was conducted through an agency, which was totally bogus. This was evident from the fact that the names of former MP from Bobbili, Rama Mohan Rao, husband of Peddapalli MP, Ch Sugunakumari, and the Congress MLA, N Raghuveera Reddy, figured in the BPL list while the names of scores of eligible beneficiaries were missing from it. Though the names of beneficiaries should be displayed in gram sabhas for distributing the benefits, no such norms were being followed. The Government is now blaming the revenue officials for the irregularities in the survey which was actually conducted by a private agency."
