Govt. committed to boosting SSI sector: Minister

By Our Staff Reporter

Hyderabad Nov. 2. The Government is willing to give all powers to the Industrial Area Local Authorities (IALA), other than ownership of industrial plots, to remove obstacles to development of small-scale industries in the State.

Mandated with administering industrial estates in the State, IALAs are crucial to the development of small and medium industries in the State, said K. Vidyadhara Rao, Minister for Major Industries, at the celebrations of the Small Scale Industries Day here on Sunday. He asked the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Associations to give him concrete suggestions, within a fortnight, on how to empower these IALAs and he would issue immediate orders on these, he assured.

On other issues of "harassment" by officials, "cumbersome" procedures and frequent inspections, Mr. Rao said that the Government had instituted single window system and directed officials to inspect factories only once in two or three years specifically to solve these problems. The small-scale sector should take advantage of these benefits and bring to the Government's notice where these policies were not being properly executed on the ground so that corrective measures could be taken.

He noted that only 14 industries had taken advantage of GO 359 for their revival, which he termed as "unsatisfactory." He called on the small and medium enterprises to come forward to take advantage of this GO as it was specifically meant for those units, which could not take advantage of BIFR.

Speaking after presenting awards to small scale entrepreneurs, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, Minister for SSI and employment generation, said that the small scale sector was very important for the Government's plans to transform the State into `Swarnandhra Pradesh' as it generated employment, contributing directly to poverty alleviation of the masses.

In his message, the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, told the gathering that the Government is committed to providing full support to the small-scale industries, especially for technology tie-ups and market linkages. The Union Minister for Small Scale Industries, C.P. Thakur, also sent a message to the function and assured the SSI sector of Government support.

Two special schemes by the AP State Financial Corporation of financial assistance to set up export-oriented industries and to set up super bazaars were launched on the occasion. The common marketing brochure of the first consortium in the foundry cluster and its website were also launched.

B.P. Acharya, principal secretary, Industries, Sameer Sharma, Commissioner of Industries, and M. Gopalakrishna, Chairman, APSFC, were also present at the function.
