`Yatra starting point decided by Vedic scholars'

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov. 2. Senior Congress leaders including former PCC presidents, former Chief Ministers, former CLP leaders led by the AICC general secretary and in-charge of AP affairs, Ghulam Nabi Azad, are leaving the city on Sunday night to reach Rajahmundry tomorrow morning when the yatra will be flagged off. Apart from Mr Azad, another AICC secretary, R.P.N Singh, and Krishnamurthy, Congress MP from Karnataka, who has been appointed as the observer to the yatra will also participate in the event.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that all arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the yatra and the schedule of the yatra for East and West Godavari districts had already been announced. The progress of the yatra, whether it should be a continuous one or should be taken up in a phased manner, would be decided on the future political developments in the light of speculation of an early election.

Replying to queries, Mr Srinivas said the take-off point for the yatra had been decided in consultation with Vedic scholars and not under pressure from the supporters of the CLP leader, Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy. The Congress leaders from Telangana would join the yatra depending on their convenience.

The Congress would also conduct "sevabhava dinotsavams" programme for six days from Nov 14 to Nov 19 to commemorate the birth anniversaries of former Prime Ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
