KCR reiterates demand for separate Telangana

By Our Staff Reporter

KAMALAPUR (KARIMNAGAR DT) NOV. 2. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has reiterated that the formation of separate State for Telangana is the only solution for all problems facing the region.

Participating in the concluding function of the `Palle bata' (village visit) programme in the Kamalapur mandal headquarters where a massive public meeting was organised on Sunday night, the TRS president said that since 45 years the Telangana region was betrayed on all fronts such as irrigation, employment, power and other sectors.

"The Telangana motherland was demanding separate Statehood, self-governance to provide employment to youth and stop suicides by the farmers", he said.

Mr. Rao said that the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, had also opposed the merger of Telangana with Andhra region, but he was influenced by the Andhra rulers for the merger of Telangana with Andhra region. He also launched a scathing attack against the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for neglecting irrigation projects on the river Godavari during his eight-year tenure.

He also alleged that the Krishna waters were also diverted by the Andhra rulers by constructing the Nagarjunasagar instead of earlier proposed Nandikonda project, which would provide irrigation facilities in lakhs of acres in Nalgonda and Khammam districts. He also flayed the State Government for not implementing the interim report recommendations of House committee on GO 610.

Refuting the claims that smaller States would not progress, he said that the country's biggest state Uttar Pradesh, which had given eight Prime Ministers and the Bihar have remained backward. On the contrary, smaller States such as Haryana, Punjab, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh progressed on all fronts in the country, he added.

Calling upon the Telangana leaders to stop carrying the `pallakis' of Andhra rulers, he called upon people to raise to the occasion and strive for the formation of Telangana State. Entire Kamalapur town was painted in `pink' and reverberated with the slogans of `Jai Telangana'.

Earlier, the Jammikunta TDP sarpanch, Surender Raju, and the Congress leader, Veerashalingam, joined the TRS alongwith their supporters.

The Zilla Parishad chairman, K.V Rajeshwara Rao, MLA, R. Papa Rao, the Karimnagar municipal chairman, V. Hanumanth Reddy, TRS leaders, C. Lakshmikantha Rao, D. China Mallaiah, K. Mruthyunjayam, Satyanarayana Reddy, D. Srinivasa Reddy, K. Bagya Reddy, K. Mukund Reddy, K. Lingaiah, P. Ramesh and others participated.
