Andhra Pradesh
By Our Staff Reporter
Talking to presspersons here on Sunday, they said Balaji Nagar, once the pride of the town, is now better known for its lack of drainage and unsanitary conditions. Not only during the rainy season, but even in normal times, it was common to see drainage water entering houses. When the Chief Minister's attention was drawn to the sorry state of affairs during his recent visit to the colony, he had announced the sanction of Rs. 2 crores for the development of the area. The municipal and public authorities, however, claimed that conditions were not conducive. The locals then did a survey of their own and propose to submit the results to the district administration shortly.
Road-widening opposed
The district unit of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen has condemned the move of the municipal authorities to widen the McLeans Road, in Kotamitta. In a statement issued here on Sunday, the MIM pointed out that all along the people in the area were neglected and not even the minimum facilities provided for them. Now all of a sudden, the civic authorities are asking them to vacate the area. It accordingly demanded a proper rehabilitation scheme, before undertaking the so-called clearance drive.
