Santosh Mondal, a junior doctor, was later released by the police on personal bond. The spokespersons of the two private TV channels ETV and Akash Bangla said two newsmen of ETV and three of Akash Bangla were beaten up and two cameras damaged by the junior doctors, apparently irked over the constant media glare on alleged lapses and neglect at the state-run hospitals in West Bengal. While an ETV cameraman and an Akash Bangla reporter were being treated at private nursing homes here, three others were released after first aid, the sources said. The journalists, who had gone to the hospital to enquire about the death of a patient there and the allegation of negligence made by the relatives of the deceased, were attacked by junior doctors with the help of local goons, the sources claimed.
