Opposition lacks direction: Venkaiah Naidu

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov. 2. The BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, said here today that there was no proposal by the Centre to dissolve the Lok Sabha and advance the general elections after completion of the Assembly polls in the five States going to the polls next month.

Asserting that the present Lok Sabha would complete its five-year term in view of the NDA Government's stability, he said the BJP was prepared to introduce a legislation making a fixed tenure for Parliament mandatory provided other political parties supported it.

At a press conference, Mr. Naidu said there would be a realignment of political parties, particularly in the Opposition, after the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Mizoram. The NDA would remain unaffected by the realignment since it was united, but the Congress would suffer due to non-cooperation of various parties including the Samajwadi Party.

He alleged that the Opposition was without direction and leadership. There were no takers for the call given by the Congress to join hands with it under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
