Swamy opposes LTTE proposals

By Our Special Correspondent

MADURAI NOV. 2. The Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, today opposed the LTTE's proposals for peace talks, asserting that it would "spell disaster" to Sri Lanka, besides constituting a "grave national security threat to India."

In a statement here, he said India could not accept any power-sharing with the LTTE in any form. "The interim authority asked for by the LTTE in their proposals will be a de facto terrorist state, and will fuel in Tamil Nadu anti-nationalism, extremist violence, drug trafficking and financing of the LTTE's stooge organisations in the State."
