Centre must offer unconditional talks: PDP

By Our Staff Reporter

Srinagar Nov. 2. The People's Democratic Party chief, Mehbooba Mufti, said today that any offer of dialogue to the separatists by the Centre would have to be without conditions to make the process more purposeful.

Talking to The Hindu, she said: " The dialogue offer by the Central Government for making any progress will have to be unconditional. For any concrete dialogue offer to emerge from the Centre's side this fact should be kept in mind."

On the statement of the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, that the talks would be on the issue of decentralisation, the PDP chief said Mr. Advani was quoted out of context and the Centre had clarified its position.

Ms. Mehbooba said a beginning would be to talk to the Ansari-led All-Parties Hurriyat Conference. Seeing the results, the Geelani-led breakaway faction could also be invited and even militants could be involved later, she added.
