A press release from K. Monappa Bhandary, president of the committee, here today noted that if Mr. Moily had understood Lord Rama properly he would not have made such statements. Mr. Moily had reportedly described "Congress Rama" as one who stood for truth, love, affection, obedience, and who was not militant, as against the "BJP's Rama", who was "militant". Mr. Bhandary said this statement was not only divisive, but also a ploy to appease the minorities. The BJP leaders had never made such comments about others, and Mr. Moily's comments were not only mischievous, but had also hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Mr. Bhandary said that the observation of Mr. Moily that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had in 1932 demanded a separate nation for Hindus and Muslims reflected his lack of knowledge of history. He said the VHP came into existence only in 1963. He claimed that the "indecisiveness" in the Congress and the party's inclination to appease Muslims were primarily responsible for the division of the country.
