Bracken on song

By Mohandas Menon

** Nathan Bracken has now claimed a wicket in his very first over on three occasions in this series. He also seems to be improving his strike-rate with every match. He had Virender Sehwag off the third ball at Gwalior; then Kiwi Chris Nevin - 2nd ball; and again Sehwag off his first ball in Mumbai.

** Matthew Hayden registered his 6th duck of his career in 77 matches. This was his first `first-ball' duck of his LOI career.

** Damien Martyn's even 100 was his fifth in 129 LOI matches. It was his first against India in 18 matches. His previous highest was the unbeaten 88 he made in Johannesburg on March 23, 2003 in the 2003 World Cup final. Incidentally, Martyn's hundred was the 99th to be scored for Australia in LOIs.

** The 111-run partnership between Martyn and Michael Bevan was the best for Australia against India for the fifth wicket surpassing the previous best stand of 99 runs between Steve Waugh and Bevan at Delhi on April 14, 1998.

** Ajit Agarkar's four for 37 was his second four-wicket haul against the Aussies in 14 matches. He had earlier taken four for 46 at Kanpur on April 7, 1998. He now joins Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar to become the third Indian bowler to take four-plus wicket hauls in a match on two separate occasions against the Aussies.

** Bracken's four for 29 was his best figures of his LOI career in 14 matches. He went past his previous best of three for 21 against England at Adelaide on January 19, 2003.

** Playing his sixth match, Michael Clarke captured his maiden four-wicket haul (four for 42) of his LOI career. Incidentally he became the only second Australian left-arm slow bowler to capture four wickets in a LOI match. He emulated former left-arm spinner Tom Hogan who had figures of four for 33 also against India at Thiruvananthapuram on October 1, 1984.
