The toll, however, remained at 32, as no dengue death was reported, the MCD claimed in an official statement. In the past one month, more than 2,000 citizens have been affected by this disease and scores of new cases were being reported daily. "Of these only 56 patients are currently under treatment at various hospitals and the rest 2,297 have been discharged. We are strictly monitoring each and every patient being reported to us,'' officials claimed. At the same time, the Leader of House in MCD, Ram Babu Sharma, claimed there was no let up in their fight against dengue and they have intensified preventive measures including power spray with the help of fire tenders. "The availability of platelet, blood and other medicines in all the MCD hospitals is being checked at regular intervals so that no patient suffers on account of their shortage,'' he said. Conceding that the dengue control room had received complaints of overcharging by some private hospitals and nursing homes and creation of artificial shortage of these essential items, he said directions have been issued to take necessary action against such hospitals and nursing homes. Mr. Sharma warned such nursing homes and hospitals that they would be taken to task if they tried to exploit the situation. Stating that the situation on the dengue front was being personally monitored by him, the Delhi Mayor, Ashok K. Jain, besides the Municipal Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta, he said power spray was carried out today at Pilanjee Kotla drain, Prem Nagar drain, Sewa Nagar, Model Town, Loha Mandi, Inderpuri, Dwarka, Indian Airlines Colony in Vasant Vihar, R. K. Puram, Raghubir Nagar and Munirka. Mr. Sharma said the maximum number of 289 dengue cases have been reported from the Central Zone, 249 from Shahdara (North), 222 from Shahdara (South), 190 from Civil Lines, 174 from South, 160 from Najafgarh, 150 from Rohini, 136 from West Zone, 116 from Karol Bagh, 65 from City Zone, 46 from Sadar Paharganj and 26 from Narela. As many as 71 cases have been reported from New Delhi Municipal Corporation area and another 14 from Delhi Cantonment / Railways areas. As for dengue patients coming from the neighbouring States for treatment, the maximum of 182 were from Uttar Pradesh, followed by 87 from Haryana, seven from Rajasthan and 30 from other States.
