5 killed in road accident

ANANTAPUR NOV.2. Five persons were killed and seven others injured when a jeep and a police van collided head-on between Lolur and Kothapalli in Garladinne mandal on the NH-7 in Anantapur district today. The injured were admitted to the Medical College hospital here.

According to the police, the jeep carrying passengers from Anantapur to Pamidi and the van carrying Karnataka police personnel from Hyderabad to Mysore collided as the drivers of the two vehicles lost control. Five passengers travelling in the jeep, including a four-year-old boy, died on the spot.

The dead were identified as Chennappa (50) of Krishnapuram in Garladinne mandal, Munendra (38) and his son Jayachandra (4) of Anandaraopet in Singanamala mandal, Ramanjaneyulu (35) of Ayyavaripeta in Pamidi mandal and Thimmappa (40) of Pamidi. Of the seven injured, the condition of Rajasekhar (13) of Anantapur was stated to be critical.

While Suri (Nemallapalli), Yellappa and Muthyalappa (Neelurupalem), Nagabhushanam (Penakacharla) and Raju (Chitrachedu) sustained grievous injuries, Allabaksh escaped with bruises. The two drivers fled the scene.
