Sensex breaches 5,000-mark

Mumbai Nov. 3. Powered by the euphoria over the credit policy that saw continued economic growth, the Sensex today surpassed the 5000-magic mark for the first time in 42 months in a flurry of activity on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

After closing the session on April 13, 2000 at 5172.13, the BSE barometer crashed following an alleged securities scam and later moved down gradually, staying below this level. — PTI
