Bail plea of Godhra carnage accused rejected

Ahmedabad Nov. 4. A Special POTA court today rejected the bail application of four of the accused in the Godhra train carnage case stating that there was enough evidence to establish their presence at the site of the incident when the Sabarmati Express coach was torched.

The judge, Sonia Gokani, also said the evidence on their presence "was also testified by several witnesses".

The prosecution led by the Additional Public Prosecutor, Sudhir Brambhatt, contented that the accused had conspired to "strike terror in the minds of a section people" and were charged under Section 120 (b) Cr.PC.

Two of the accused, Muzaffar Usman Hayat and Ahmed Abdul Rahim Kala, were arrested by a CID (crime) team of the Railway police last year. The other two, Mohammad Sayed Abdul Salam Badam and Shabbir alias Bhupatno Bhurio, were also arrested last year. — PTI
