By Our Correspondent

MAHABUBNAGAR NOV. 7. The Kalwakurthy MLA of TDP, G. Jaipal Yadav, had a narrow escape when naxalites of the People's War opened fire at him this evening near Madugula. An Executive Engineer of the Panchayatraj Department, Tirupati Reddy, who was accompanying Mr. Yadav in the car, received bullet injuries and his condition was stated to be critical.

According to information reaching here, around 6.10 p.m., the MLA was returning to Kolukulapalli village after attending a meeting at Madugula. When the vehicle was passing through a culvert, four naxalites of the PW, who positioned themselves on either side of the road, started firing at the vehicle. The MLA's gunman, Shabir Ahmed, came out from the vehicle, took position behind a tree and returned the fire.

Telugu Desam workers, who were following the MLA in a car, noticed the firing, went back to Madugula and informed police.

A police party immediately rushed to the spot and opened fire on the naxalites, who immediately fled.
