Punya Prabha hogs the limelight

BANGALORE Nov. 7. Punya Prabha is just a wisp of a girl, but give her a bow she turns an archer par excellence. The school girl from Moradabad, once again hogged the limelight as the curtain came down in the 24th National sub-junior archery championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here today.

Punya Prabha shot her way to glory in both 30 metre and 50 m FITA round and claimed silver in the 60 m and 50 m events. She won the 40 m event with 307 points and 30 m with 334 points and her overall effort fetched her individual title in FITA round with 1219 points.

Earlier on Friday, Punya Prabha had won the overall title in the Indian round.

" I trained hard for this championship and it paid off '', said the 14-year-old youngster, who wishes to make a big mark in senior ranks as well.

Two Jharkand girls, Runu Swargiary and Mahamaya Midura Chariya stopped foiled Punya Prabha's sweep, by winning the gold in the 60 metre and 50 metre events respectively, Jharkand also swept the board in the team championship with 3545 points ahead of UP at 3520.

Jharkand called the shots in the boys FITA section as well. The star performer for Jharkand was the lanky Ranjeet Das, a trainee of Tata Archery Academy at Jamshedpur. He was in an irresistible form and right on target, winning the 30 m, 40 m and50 m events. Das's gold rush, however, was stalled by his team-mate, Birshabandia in the 60 m event. But, Ranjeet Das, deservingly took the overall title with 1278 points while, Birshabandia, finished second with 1243 points.

The Jharkand domination in the boys FITA round was total as it won all top three spots in all the four events, 30 m, 40 m, 50 m and 60 m. Jharkand also won the team title with 3726 points and Rajasthan emerged as the runner-up with 3191 points.

Boys: 30 m: 1.Ranjeet Das (Jhar-344) ;2. Ramdin Puja (Jhar 338) ;3.Prabhat Kandir (Jhar 329 ).40 m: 1.Ranjeet Das(325) ;2. Birshabandia (Jhar 315) ;3. Ramdin Puja ( 307).50 m : 1.Ranjeet Das (296) ;2.Birshabandia (290) ;3.Prabhat Kandir (288).60 m : 1.Birshabandia (317) ;2.Ranjeet Das (313) .Ramdin Puja(287).

Overall individual championship: 1.Ranjeet Das (1278) ;2. Birshabandia (1243) ;3.Ramdin Puja (1205).

Team championship :1.Jharkand (3726) ;2.Rajasthan (3191) ;3.West Bengal (2630).

Girls : 30 m : 1.Punya Prabha ( UP 334) ;2.Runu Swargiary (Jhar 325) ;3.Shwetha ( UP 321). 40 m : 1.Punya Prabha ( 307) ;2.Runu Swargiary (325) ;3.Shwetha (321).50 m :Mahamaya Midura Chariya (Jhar 288) ;2.Punya Prabha (279) ;3.Runu Swargiary (271). 60 m : 1.Runu Swargiary (301) ;2.Punya Prabha (299) ;3.Mahamaya Midura Chariya (296).

Overall individual championship :1. Punya Prabha (1219) ;2.Runu Swargiary (1200) ;3.Mahamaya Midura Chariya (1184).
