Mufti to woo foreign tourists

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Nov. 8. In an effort to bring back Jammu and Kashmir on the world tourism map, the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today left for London to participate in an international tourism meet. He will lead a six-member delegation to the four-day meet to showcase tourist spots, including Vaishno Devi, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.

Tourism industry in the State received a serious setback after eruption of militancy in 1989 with the tourist inflow dropping sharply to a few thousands in the subsequent years.

The number dwindled further after five foreign tourists were kidnapped and later killed by Al Faran terrorists in July 1995.

The industry showed signs of revival but was hit by the Kargil war.
