Indian engineer shot dead in Kabul

KABUL NOV. 8 . An Indian telecommunications engineer was fatally shot by unidentified assailants here, security officials said on Friday.

The deputy police chief, Khalil Amin Zada, said the engineer was killed late on Thursday at the guesthouse where he was staying.

The spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, Paul Rice, said the victim was employed by a contractor who worked for the Afghan Wireless Company, a mobile telephone operator.

A spokesperson for the Indian Embassy here released the first name of the victim — Sanjiv, and said that he was in his 20's and was from Chennai. — AP
