Karunakaran firm on Antony's ouster

KOCHI NOV. 8. Notwithstanding the decision of the ruling UDF partners in Kerala to remain united and not to seek a confidence vote for the present, the senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, today continued his "oust-Antony'' rhetoric, saying, "there cannot be anything lesser than that."

Speaking to reporters at the Nedumabassery airport, a belligerent Karunakaran said that the `I' faction would not accept anything other than leadership change.

Asked if the functioning of the Government had become stagnant, he said, "there has been no rule so far by the present Government, so where is the question of stagnancy?" It was unlikely that the UDF partners had decided not to seek a confidence vote, he said.

Meanwhile, the AICC secretary, Vayalar Ravi, said though the crisis in the Congress continued, it had not worsened. He told reporters that the party high command was keen to settle the issue before it worsened. The high command did not want to "hurt" anyone, which "some friends" had interpreted as "weakness." — PTI
