Eclipse will not be visible here

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov.8. The total lunar eclipse which occurs tomorrow morning would be hardly visible in most parts of the country, including Hyderabad, as it begins at the time of daybreak, according to Dr. B.G. Sidharth, Director-General, B M Birla Science Centre.

In a statement here, he said that technically, the eclipse begins when the Sun begins to enter the partial shadow region called penumbra at 3.45 am IST.

The moon continues to move through the partial shadow region till 5.02 a.m. The moon would enter the total shadow region after 5.02 a.m. IST when the partial eclipse begins.

The moon would be totally in the total shadow region at 6.36 a.m. when the total eclipse begins. "By then, however, there would be enough daylight so that the otherwise interesting sight would not be conspicuous,'' he added.

He said that the total eclipse would be for a short duration of twenty-four and half minutes. Thereafter, the eclipse would once again become partial and would end at 8 hours and 24 seconds IST.

Interestingly this would be the last lunar eclipse of a cycle of eclipses called Saros, he said.

Dr. Sidharth said that the eclipse would however be conspicuous in countries like USA and Canada in the Western Hemipshere.
