Eight killed in clash

By Barun Das Gupta

GUWAHATI Nov. 8. Eight persons — five NDFB militants and three villagers — were killed in a clash in Goalpara district of Assam this morning. The militants were lynched to death by an angry mob.

Ripun Bora, Minister, told reporters at Dispur that people of the Dinga Ganga village surrounded a group of Bodo youth suspecting their movements. The youths hurled a grenade at the villagers, killing two instantly. Enraged by this, the villagers lynched two ultras.

The other three tried to escape in a boat after attacking the boatman. In the clash that followed the three ultras were also lynched. The secretary of the village defence party was also killed in the clash. Police rushed to the spot and recovered some Chinese-made arms and ammunition and NDFB literature.
