`Kanara Industrial Fair' from Nov. 27

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE NOV. 9. "Kanara Industrial Fair-2003", an exposition on outsourcing and vendor development, will be held at the Bykampady Industrial Area here from November 27 to 29.

The fair is being organised by the Small-Industries Service Institute, Ministry of Small-Scale Industries, the Department of Industries and Commerce, and the Kanara Small Industries Association (KSIA).

Arvind Shrivastava, Deputy Commissioner, said the fair was being organised to promote small industries in and around the city.

Members of the Kanara Small Industries Association had visited several places in the county and abroad to mobilise resources to the fair.

He said KSIA had participated in a trade fair in Sri Lanka. In January last, KSIA along with the Union Ministry of Small-Scale Industries, and the State Directorate of Industries and Commerce organised a regional level vendor development programme.

The KSIA's participation in such events prompted it to organise the fair.

Mr. Shrivastava, who stressed the need to encourage small industries in the district, said there was a need for suitable entrepreneurs for outsourcing.

Efforts were on to address issues related to investment, banking plans, indigenisation of components, and quality parameters among other aspects.

He said the fair would help promote mutual trade by arranging interactions between vendors and clients, and forging links among small, medium and large-scale sectors.

Representatives from Defence, Railways, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., government undertakings, private industries, and tiny units would display their products and catalogues during the exhibition.

Seminars and workshops on the implementation of quality assurance systems, technology development and transfer, and production and management principles would be held, he added.

The President of KSIA, Jayaraj Pai, and vice-president, M. Krishna Bhat, were present.
