Unwarranted

Sir, — The sentences awarded by the Tamil Nadu Assembly to The Hindu Editor, Executive Editor, and three others for alleged "breach of privilege", is a breach of the Assembly's privilege by the Assembly itself; for, this totally unwarranted sentence, which is likely to rebound on itself, has already caused further erosion of the dignity of the Assembly through public indignation which is likely to turn into a groundswell.

Sir, — In the Indian context, Abraham Lincoln's definition of democracy — by the people, of the people and for the people, has been altered largely to serve vested interests. It is because of such a mockery being made out of our democracy that undeserving candidates win elections and thereafter rule as per their whims and fancies.

Sir, — When the then Government at the Centre tried to silence the media during the Emergency it had to pay a very heavy price. Is the Tamil Nadu Government headed towards such an end?
