Two killed in Ahmedabad violence

Ahmedabad Nov. 9. Two persons were killed and one suffered stab injuries in a fresh bout of violence in the sensitive Kalupur area of the city tonight, police said.

One person was burnt alive and his scooter set on fire by a mob, while another was stoned to death, police said.

Heavy stone-throwing was reported since 10 p.m. and tension spread to nearby areas.

Police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mobs and banned people from taking to the streets, senior officials said.

The late night violence was triggered by reports of stabbing of a person belonging to a minority community in Juhapura area over a personal feud.

A curfew has been clamped and additional troops deployed in the area and surrounding places. The situation is reported to be tense but under control, police said. — PTI
