dated November 12, 1953: NYT Lauds Indian Officers' Work in Korea

The New York Times on the 10th paid editorial tribute to the Indian Custodian Force in Korea and said: "That the Indians have shown splendid discipline even under the most trying conditions would, of course, be no surprise to any person who knows something of the great tradition of the Indian Army. Above that, is the fact that the leadership of Generals Thimmayya and Thorat has been imaginative and flexible. There has been correct objection on their part to use of force, but there is corresponding effort to make use of honest persuasion. Prisoners in Korea have often come to feel Indians are their real friends and the behaviour of the Indians has encouraged this feeling.

This is as it should be. The Indians would want that feeling, and so do we. It is good to see a hard job well done.
