Earlier the BJP men staged a dharna before the council hall, demanding proper drainage facilities and sanction of ration cards to all eligible persons. Since the council was in session, they continued to raise slogans demanding an audience with the chairperson. When the chairperson, T. Anuradha, came out they started raising slogans against her causing her to withdraw into the House. The protestors stepped up their sloganeering, targeting the chairperson. Incidentally, a BJP councillor led the protest and the party is supposed to be an ally of the TDP, which controls the municipality. All of a sudden the protestors stormed into the council hall and indulged in the vandalism. Some of the BJP councillors were shocked at the unsavoury turn of events and chided the protestors, who then started leaving the hall reluctantly. The chairperson later met the protestors and assured them that the drainage problem would be solved, but pointed out that additional money would be required as the present allocation of Rs. 3 crores was not sufficient. The CPI (M) also staged two separate protest demonstrations demanding ration cards and better infrastructure in the town. The Congress councillors also demanded a discussion on ration cards..
