BJP seeks allotment of 100 seats

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH Nov. 11. The Bharatiya Janata Party is seeking allotment of 100 Assembly seats to it in the coming Assembly elections as it gained considerable strength and developed cadre during the last five years and conveyed it to the TDP, BJP leaders said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, the BJP State Executive member and film actor, Naresh, asserted that the party emerged as a force to reckon with in the State, with a membership of 22 lakhs and making forays into the rural areas and would contest the Assembly polls with an alliance with the TDP. The BJP was particularly keen on seeking more Assembly seats in Cuddapah and Anantapur districts and proposed to seek the Proddatur, Kodur, Lakkireddipalle and Rajampet seats in the district, said the district BJP president, N. Bali Reddy.

Asserting that the BJP and the TDP would romp home with ease, Mr. Naresh ridiculed the Congress Legislature Party leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's statement that `Indira rule' would be revived and said it only reminded one of the dark days of the Emergency. Criticising Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy's promise of free power supply, he asked why the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, did not stress on the promise during her visits to the State and its non-implementation in Congress-ruled States. The Congress' bus yatra aimed at displaying unity among Congress leaders failed, he alleged. The Congress Governments were scam-tainted and encouraged communal rifts and failed to develop infrastructure, he alleged.

He said the Vajpayee Government was the only one to provide stable rule for five years after Nehru and Indira Gandhi. The NDA Government allotted 50 lakh tonnes of rice to A.P. to provide work to the agricultural labourers and poor, he said. The BJP would undertake a public awareness campaign on water and land distribution from November 15 to December 14, to ensure distribution of surplus lands to the poor and checking wastage of river waters by taking up projects.

The BJP Dalit Morcha national vice-president, P. Penchalaiah, hailed the appointment of Justice Punnaiah as the State SC/ST Commission chairman.

The BJP State Executive member, A. Harinath Reddy, the State Council member, K.V. Ramana Reddy, national council member, M. Chandrasekhar Reddy, former district vice-president, Nagabasi Reddy, district vice-president, N. Maheswara Reddy, media cell convenor, S.V.N. Prakash, and others also took part.
