Film industry to defy militants' blanket ban

By Barun Das Gupta

GUWAHATI Nov. 11. The film industry has decided to defy the blanket ban on the screening of Hindi films in the entire northeast from November 15 imposed by eight militant groups of the region, a spokesman of the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association said here today.

A dozen organisations of producers, distributors and exhibitors have also decided to stage a daylong dharna before the Deputy Commissioner's court here on November 13.

``Militants have not served any formal notice on the industry. We came to know of it only through the media'', he said. The industry has apprised the Assam Government of the threat and has been assured police protection.

There are around 150 cinema halls in the seven States.
