Ashwin hits unbeaten 153

VISAKHAPATNAM NOV. 11. Tamil Nadu opener R. Ashwin hit an unbeaten 153 against Hyderabad on the opening day of the South Zone under-17 tournament for the V. Pattabhiraman Trophy at the ACA-VDCA Stadium here on Tuesday. At close Tamil Nadu had made 285 for four.

Ashwin hit 21 fours and was involved in two huge partnerships - 155 for the second wicket with Maruthi Raghav (59, 11x4) and 93 for the fourth with M. Prabhu (28, 2x4).

At the Ukku Stadium, Abishek Hegde was unlucky to miss his century (90, 1x6, 10x4) but anchored the team's innings on the first day by adding 104 runs for the second wicket with Rohan Prem (29, 3x4) and then putting on 82 for the fifth with Robert Fernandez (54, 5x4) after the team suffered early losses.

Karnataka was in a comfortable position in its match against Goa at the Zinc Stadium. After restricting Goa to 151, Karnataka was 121 for two at close. Ganesh Satish (50 batting, 8x4) and V. Cheluvaraj (25) have put on 49 runs for the third wicket so far. Earlier Satyajith Shetty (59, 2x6, 7x4), along with Saurav Bhandekar (23) and Kiran Pendekar (20), were the main run-getters for Goa.

The scores:

Tamil Nadu 285 for four in 90 overs (R. Ashwin 153 batting, Maruthi Raghav 59, M. Prabhu 28) vs Hyderabad.

Kerala 231 for five in 98 overs (Abishek Hegde 90, Robert Fernandez 54, Sujit Muralidharan 32 batting, Rohan Prem 28) vs Andhra.

Goa 151 in 50.3 overs (Satyajit Shetty 59, M.R. Darshan six for 50, Umesh Karvi three for 29) vs Karnataka 121 for two in 37 overs (Ganesh Satish 50 batting, V. Cheluvaraj 25 batting).
