According to official sources, several schools are not serving lunch to the students as the food supplies have not reached them. A team of presspersons, who visited these schools, found that lunch had not been served to the children for the past few days. The teachers said they had not received food supplies, especially rice, and hence the implementation of the scheme had been suspended. The headmasters of a few schools, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said though they had submitted the indent in time, they had not received the supplies. According to sources, nearly 100 schools in Hassan taluk, 80 in Holenarsipur taluk, and many in Channarayapatna, Alur, and Arkalgud taluks have suspended the implementation of the scheme. Krishne Gowda, teacher in Marigowdanakopplu Primary School in Hassan taluk, said though the indent was sent to the authorities concerned in September, the foodgrains had not been supplied. Nagaraj, another teacher in Tattekere, said though the authorities concerned had been informed about this, no action had been taken in this regard. Teachers in schools in other villages said the pulses supplied by the department were of poor quality, and they had not received the required quantity of oil. Rudraiah, nodal officer of the scheme, said nearly 40 schools in Hassan taluk had not received the supplies and the Department of Food and Civil Supplies had failed in lifting the stock. The nodal officers of other taluks confirmed this. Rajanna, Food Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, blamed the Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation for the problem. He said despite instructions from the Government, it was not supplying pulses, iodised salt, and oil on a regular basis. The department rejected poor quality pulses recently, he added. Despite bringing the lapses to the notice of Managing Director of the corporation, corrective steps had not been taken. He said the issue was brought to the notice of the district in-charge Minister and the Deputy Commissioner at a meeting on November 5. Mr. Rajanna said the department was making all efforts to set right the matter and lunch was served to the children on Tuesday.
