No proposal from TRS, says APCC chief

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI NOV. 11. With speculation that Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh could be called ahead of schedule mounting, Congress leaders from the State arrived here to hold discussions with the Central party leadership, especially on the demand that the AICC take a stand on the issue of separate Telangana.

The Pradesh Congress chief, D. Srinivas and the Congress Legislature Party leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, arrived here today. Ghulam Nabi Azad, in charge of party affairs of the State, asked them to be available here for consultations.

The move also assumed significance in the wake of reports that agitated party workers threatened to disrupt the bus yatra, aimed at showcasing unity in the State party, and prevent it from entering Telangana.

In an interaction with correspondents here, Mr. Srinivas, denied that the bus journey was truncated on account of any threat. He said since party leaders had summoned them, it was decided to suspend the journey temporarily.

Responding to questions on the possibility of a tie-up with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, a suggestion being made by a section of party members, the PCC chief said at present there was no proposal from the TRS.

"We are a national party, let the TRS make a proposal first,'' he said.

Mr. Srinivas said the Congress was gearing to contest all 294 seats with the aim to regain power in the State. Besides, the issue of separate Telangana, the PCC chief said the State leaders would like to know discuss organisational matters like whether or not to re-constitute the PCC.

On the issue of separate Telangana and demand within the party to constitute a separate PCC, Mr. Srinivas said the leaders of the Congress Forum for Telengana were discussing the matter with the party's central leadership directly.
