By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Nov. 11. A joint meeting of the leaders of the ruling Congress and the CPI, the CPI (M), the Republican Party of India, the Janata Dal (S) and the Indian Union Muslim League held in the Congress party office here on Monday resolved to hold a demonstration near the head post office here at 5 p.m. on Thursday to condemn the `gagging of press freedom and denial of democratic rights to the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu'.

Briefing newsmen today, the PCC president, V. Narayanasamy, the CPI State committee secretary, N. Kalainathan, and the CPI (M) secretary, T. Murugan, said the meeting condemned the award of 15 days' imprisonment to journalists of The Hindu and Murasoli by the Tamil Nadu Assembly for an alleged breach of privilege.

The fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression of the fourth estate had been crushed in Tamil Nadu, they alleged.

Mr. Narayanasamy said the meeting welcomed the order of the Supreme Court staying the Tamil Nadu Assembly's action against the journalists.

On the DMK agitation proposed tomorrow, Mr. Narayanasamy and others said `We were not consulted formally and any decision for a stir should be jointly discussed and decided'.
